Underfloor Fabric Duct Replaces Metal ducting With Superior Results

Space and noise concerns made a FabricAir dispersion system the optimal solution for the Danish Broadcasting facility.

Background

The Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) wereexperiencing problems with the metal duct designin the recently erected broadcasting facility in Denmark.Due to improper load calculations, it did not provide the right airflow.

FabricAir was selected to solve the problem, addressing concerns about noise (max NC15), air velocity (0,13m/s), condensation (from a large ΔT) and space restrictions.

The installation had to be completed between 1:00 am and 5:00 am, interrupted by hourly news breaks, when the studio was on the air.  During these break the use of tools and other sources of noise was not permitted.

Solution

We designed a system that addressed the noiseand condensation concerns, while eliminating the need for insulation.

Due to space restrictions underfloor ducting was ideal andthe stringent criteria regarding noise made FabricAirthe obvious choice.

The ducts were suspended in square aluminumframes between the concrete floor and araised wooden floor.

Results

The result is a unique solution that efficientlyaddresses all issues and concerns. There is no condensation, the air velocity is 0,13 m/s and it is virtually silent.

In addition, the solution saved time and money during the installation process. It was installed by three people over two nights in a total of 8 hours. Following the first night, the floor had to be replaced, and all tables and chairs returned to their original positions.

Draft-free

Drafts refer to fast moving cool air that can cause discomfort in the work place.

Noiseless

There are many considerations when evaluating noise levels in any given space. Air distribution is just one of those factors.
